Evil Geeks Women’s History Month Warriors: Katniss Everdeen

Today I bring you the Mockingjay. Yes folks, Katniss Everdeen is a woman that you don’t want to cross, and you definitely want by your side in battle. She certainly comes with her character flaws, most importantly an inability to let people she loves help her, but she will also fight for her friends and what is just and right until the end.

Evil Geeks Women’s History Month Warriors: Princess Leia

Princess Leia probably more than anyone else on this list helped set the archetype for the woman warrior in the geek and nerd culture.

What I always admired about her character was the fact that as a person of power and influence she was using her position for the greater good of mankind. She was regal and classy but was willing to get into the trenches (or trash compactor) herself if need be. She never rested on her laurels. Make no mistake; Leia Organa is a tough as nails badass. I don’t think many people would have the will power and determination to stand strong against a threat of having the entire planet they were raised on decimated…in front of them. She didn’t budge a single inch though and stood her ground. That says a lot.

Evil Geeks Women’s History Month Warriors: Willow Rosenberg

Happy Sunday Evil Geeks! Our Women’s History Month Warriors feature has given us the opportunity to talk about some very powerful ladies.  However today’s honoree ranks right up there with the heaviest of heavy hitters.  When she’s not pulling down straight A’s in school, she’s facing off against vampires, demons, and monsters of all sorts.  I first wrote about Willow Rosenberg way back in our Top 5 Geek Crushes article waaaay back when, but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to talk about my Geek crush who could actually crush me with a flick of her wrist.

Evil Geeks Women’s History Month Warriors: Louis Leakey’s Women

Today I travel away from the realm of science fiction and fantasy and bring you some real life women warriors. Women at the top of their field that have changed the world. Today is also a three for one, as I am bringing you the three women chosen by Louis Leakey to study the great apes, also known as the “Trimates”. They are none other than Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birute Galdikas.

Evil Geeks Women’s History Month Warriors: Susie Derkins

Before there was Hermione Granger there was Susie Derkins. The perfect girl next door, Susie Derkins is the next door neighbor to Calvin from the infamous comic Calvin and Hobbes. Susie and Calvin have quite an interesting and pretty much spiteful relationship, but I always loved the comic strips that featured Susie, especially because of her personality traits.

Welcome one and welcome all to Women’s History Month. I know the other geeks have been providing you (especially Lillith, you work wolf you) with some powerful and very important ladies over the last couple weeks. I have unfortunately been unable to throw my hat into this pool, until today that is. While thinking of which woman to choose for my piece of this pie that is Women’s History Month, I was sorely lacking in decision making abilities. Who would I choose? There are so many wonderful women in the world of comics, movies, games and everything in between, so you can see the challenge in choosing the proper one. On a tip from Biff, he reminded me of my absolute love of all things Metroid, and I felt like an idiot because I didn’t see it earlier. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you Samus Aran.
