Ep 210 – Careless Whispers (and Podcast Recording)

We are BACK, Evil Geeks! We got an early jump on our summer vacation, but it’s time to get down to business. C-Mart, Undies of Wondy, and Grand Maester Zed are talking the latest video game news from E3, Star Wars toxicity, and much more. APOLOGIES FOR THE SOUND ISSUE: C-Mart and Undies of Wondy’s mic was really low, but Zed is crystal clear, so be prepared for jump scares.

Dentally Unstable – The Common Trait Among Sony’s Spider-Man Villains

Spider-Teeth Doppelganger

What makes a villain? Batman (and DC Comics in general) has taught us that all it takes is a name that sounds like a play-on-words and a single-minded obsession with an object or idea. However, Marvel comics tended to infuse a bit more pathos into their villains (although that has not yet been the case with their film line). However, the Spider-Man franchises over at Sony have made it very clear that their prerequisites for super-villainy are science experiments gone wrong and bad teeth.

Roundtable Discussion On The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Martian Luthor Kang and Biff Tannen got together via email to dissect the newly released Amazing Spider-Man 2. Their transcript has now been released…

Biff: My immediate fears going into this movie were largely the same problems I walked away with. It’s too long, there are too many characters and so much of it seems like set up for future installments and spin offs. The Sinister Six launching point scene towards the end felt so unnatural. However, it makes me wonder if we lived in pre internet world if I would have felt different? I knew about these “problems” going into the movie, so it’s hard to say that they didn’t inform how I felt.

Can you imagine if they did keep the Mary Jane scenes that were originally filmed? I mean they went on record with saying they cut them because the movie was already too chuck full of characters.

Kang: Actually, I was half-expecting them to have secretly snuck a scene with MJ in as a mid-credits Easter Egg or something. That “Face it, Tiger” moment wouldn’t have been a total surprise, except for the fairly maudlin tone of the ending. I agree that the movie already had a lot of characters in it, but it could certainly have been pulled off.

Modern Superhero Movies And The Companies That Make Them

36166

Let’s talk about the Amazing Spider-Man film series, shall we? As you may know Sony has rebooted the Spider-Man film franchise with its first movie in 2012. It made sense, the original Sam Rami helmed Spider-Man movies were successful and in its wake the superhero movie genre had exploded. Christopher Nolan proved that the general public can accept a swift reboot of a franchise if it’s done right.

It’s shocking that recently 3 more sequels were announced for the Amazing Spider-Man, the second of which is coming out in the summer of 2014. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to feature both Electro and the Rhino as villains well as Harry & Norman Osborne with a teaser shot of the Green Goblin on a promotional poster. I must admit, the trailer looks pretty good. I’m nervous though that for one, Sony is biting off more than they can chew. Everyone wants to follow the Marvel Cinematic method to create a full bodied universe where characters can cross over and spin off into other films. Here’s the thing, Marvel had a lot of successful properties to include and had a slow build up where each character could be highlighted over a few years thus creating a fervor for them all appearing together in one movie as the Avengers. DC is also trying their hand at the accelerated version of this with the sequel to Man Of Steel by including both Batman and Wonder Woman. Hell, Fox is getting in on it too with X-Men: Days Of The Future Past by combining casts from the First Class as well as the previous 3 installments as a way to help tie in the franchise. That one at least is unique and kind of makes sense a little more given the storyline.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Teaser Trailer hits!

Hey Nerds!

big-spidey
Today SONY Pictures released the teaser trailer for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that is planned to hit theaters this summer on May 2nd, 2014! Andrew Garfield reprises his role as Spidey and joins a large cast including Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti and Sally Field.

As we all know, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already has a couple of confirmed villains with Electro and The Rhino played by Foxx and Giamatti, but after a look at a poster online last week it appears that we may be in for a Goblin as well. Life’s always tough for Spidey, but at least Pete has his girl and an old friend from the past in Harry Osborn… but will his world come crashing down? Check out the trailer for yourself and sound off your theories and ideas in the comments!
