Comic Book Panel(s) of the Day 9/8/13

Happy Weekend Evil Geeks!

DC just wrapped up their Trinity War storyline that pitted the various Justice League teams against each other to bring us into their villains month and then the much anticipated Forever Evil event! Rather than being spoon-fed issue by issue I decided to gulp down the six issue storyline all in one go and was pretty much satisfied with the entire thing. There were some moments throughout the read that really stood out to me, but the best ones were in the final issue of the arc in Justice League #23 drawn by the amazing Ivan Reis! The story is cool because it starts off with justice Leagues vs. Justice Leagues, but then the teams begin to fracture and they mix up a little along the way. I’ve pulled a few panels for you to check out. Not gonna lie…they’re pretty awesome. Enjoy!!!

Can't we all just get along?

Comic Book Panel of the Day 5/23/13

Afternoon Evil Geeks!

Today’s Panel of the Day comes from Batman and Red Hood #20 from last week. I just got caught up last night and I’ve gotta say that I really enjoy the way that DC is teaming Bruce back up with his old partners following his son, Damian’s demise. The panel is so simple, but powerful. Bruce has brought Jason Todd back to where he died with hopes that it may trigger some subconscious memory on how exactly he came back because he misses his son that damn much. This is such a contrast to when Jason died in the 80’s. Although he mourned him, he never tried to bring him “back,” but maybe that’s because he thought it was impossible back then. Either way, I’ve always been a fan of Damian and although I really wish he did not die, I am glad that his death has been taken seriously in the Bat-books and that there has been follow up, rather than just moving on. Granted it was his son rather than just a partner (I know, I know, they are all his sons,) but 10 years ago the story would have ended and another one would have picked up. So I’m glad that the serialized storytelling in Comic Books in general has improved to such a point that this man will end at nothing to bring his boy back.

When I read this, all I could think of was “Why do you think Jason is always such a dick, Bruce?” Ya gotta feel bad for him about this, but Bruce just doesn’t care. He just wants to find a way. So, do I think we’ll see Damian again? Yes, he has the blood of the demon in his veins after all, but it’ll be awhile. And akin to Jason Todd, he may come back as an unfriendly.

See ya next time NERDS!

Comic Book Panel of the Day 2/8/13

Happy Friday Evil Geeks!

Today’s Panel of the Day comes from The Flash # 13 from a couple months ago. I know, I know, not the most current, but still delightfully gruesome! Flash’s Rogues have always been pretty awesome in my mind and although they definitely changed them up in the New 52, I’m pretty much OK with them. One dynamic that they kept from the old DCU is a younger Trickster character by the name of Axel Walker, who was basically a punk kid who used his tech to rob people and basically cause chaos for the Flash. In what seems like old-hat for Axel, he screwed up one of the Rogues scores and was thrown out of the group. He then tries to get back into the group by getting on Captain Cold’s good side, but it doesn’t work out the way he hoped. Leading up to our panel, Grodd and his army of Gorillas has attended Central City in search of The Flash. While our hero and the rest of the rogues are dealing with the monkeys, The Trickster attempts to appeal to Grodd and act as a liason to Central City, stating that he knows it like the back of his hand. The panel below illustrates just why there are bars up in the zoo… Take a look!
