Evil Movie Review: Godzilla

Blockbuster season is gearing up, Evil Geeks and so far this summer has been kind to us as our first popcorn flick of the season, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, was UNBELIEVABLY good.  Godzilla is up this week and with the bad taste of this Summer’s second blockbuster, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, still in my mouth, I’ve been hoping beyond all other hopes that the grumpy green giant wouldn’t let me down after plunking down $18.50 to check him out in IMAX.  Can this once great cinema icon stomp his way back into our hearts and movie-going wallets once again? His loathsome last reboot was dead on arrival in the theaters, so with that failure still behind him, if this movie doesn’t deliver, then Hollywood just might finally manage to kill off Godzilla once and for all. Sure the citizens of countless Pacific adjacent cities would be grateful, but damn it; do we really want to live in a world where poor box office returns can accomplish something King Ghidora never could?

The trailer for GODZILLA is finally here!!!

Hey Evil Geeks

Just this afternoon Warner Bros. and Legendary Films dropped a giant kaiju on us in the form of the official Godzilla teaser trailer and you can see it right here! WB worked their butts off tho keep this thing under wraps and whenever an image leaked online of our angry green friend they put a stop and desist up to get it down, so it’s nice to be able to share the glory of Godzilla with the masses! Plus, check out this sick hi-res poster too…

Hell Yeah!

Hell Yeah!

Damn, this movie looks cool and the shroud of secrecy around it makes me even more excited to see it! Gozilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston and is directed by Gareth Edwards. The film is set to be released on May 16th, 2014! When you add this with X-Men, Captain America and the rest of the flicks coming up it’s sure to be one helluva summer at the movies!

Check out the trailer below and sound off in the comments to let us know what you think. The Evil Geeks have hung out with the folks from Legendary and their stuff is legit so make sure to check out for some cool extras and follow them on Facebook and Twitter for more updates!

The Evil Geeks Top 5 Thunderdome Throwdown: Our Dads Can Beat Up Your Dads Edition

Happy Father’s Day Evil Geeks! Dad’s come in all shapes and sizes. Geek culture is certainly in no short supply of classic father figures, whether good, bad or ugly, we got ’em all. It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Top 5 list so we thought what better time to do one than Father’s day? Consider this our tribute to all the nerd father’s out there.

5.) Norman Osborn

Genius, world class dick, criminally insane and a super villain, it would be difficult to keep Norman Osborn off this list. Well, Normy was never anyone’s notion of an ideal dad but he did pass his ridiculously strange hairline to his son Harry. Yes, Norman should have been a “better” dad, but in a very Hemingway-esque moment his wife died giving birth. That’s enough to resent your kid and lash out against him, right? It’s not, but I find Norman’s story to be an interesting one. If anything you can trace it back to his father, Ambrose the brilliant alcoholic who lost their family’s company and was down right abusive to them. Norman’s staying power within the Marvel U is no surprise, as he’s one of the most misunderstood, derided, twisted and fascinating characters. We just can’t seem to get enough of him.

If banging your son’s friend and spawning children, only to try kill her in a very public way (with Spidey inadvertently delivering the death blow) to cover up your secret and also traumatize your arch nemesis doesn’t scream dad of the year than I don’t know what does.
