The Evil Geeks Top 5 Favorite Costumes (Redux)

Many moons ago we brought you a Top 5 list of our favorite costumes across various mediums. This time Biff and Martian Luthor Kang revisited the idea with a keen eye and a finer toothed comb.

5) Iron Man Armor (MK III)

Iron Man’s well known red and gold armor is a masterwork of sleekness and simplicity, but it never stood out to me. Maybe because it has existed for the entire time I’ve been alive. Yet when I dove back and saw him for the first time with that armor and the oh-so 1960’s horns on it, I knew I was looking at something special. Designed by the legendary Steve Ditko the horned look didn’t stick around long, but man do I wish it did.

Bonus: The original giant silver armor (MK I) and the original giant gold armor (MK II)

I completely get why these were redesigned especially since they seem so incredibly bulky, but I just love that vintage 1960’s Sci-Fi B-Movie look.

The Majesty Of Kevin Wada (Part 2)

There was so much beautiful Kevin Wada art available that I had to break it into two articles. Really, this is just scratching the surface too. Wada’s technique is filled with such style and class that it elevates it past the comic book medium. He currently is bringing his unique design aesthetic to the covers of She-Hulk, but with that series wrapping up shortly he’ll be available for (hopefully) another monthly comic. What title do you think he’s best suited for?

The Majesty Of Kevin Wada (Part 1)

Not too long ago I became smitten with the work of Phil Noto around the same time I was also introduced to artist, Kevin Wada. Wada is most recently known for his exquisitely painted covers for the Charles Soule written She-Hulk series. As I did some more research I fell in love. He strives for some forward thinking fashion designs on many well known characters, especially in the X-Universe. Redesigning their looks and resulted in new fresh takes on the characters that seemingly affected their attitudes as well. Take a look for yourself.

Pulp Corner: The Fashion Of The Flash Gordon Newspaper Strip

As I get older I find myself more interested in what goes into artists’ costume designs for superheroes. So when I stumbled upon this it was a godsend. Apparently, Flash Gordon creator Alex Raymond had released these in 1934 as more or less toys for kids. Essentially, they were paper doll cutouts which you could dress up in various apparel. I’ve always appreciated Raymond’s gorgeous art so seeing these is a real treat. Despite their original intention they work more as a document of Flash Gordon intergalactic fashion from the 1930’s and Alex Raymond’s forward thinking futuristic sense of style.

Villain Spotlight: Goddamn Retailers

Warning: This is a satire…..for the most part. Don’t take these words too seriously… seriously

Welcome back to the one that started it all folks. When I first came up with the idea for the Villain Spotlight, I had originally planned it to just be about fictional characters for the most part. However, in the back of my mind I always knew that eventually, the real world would come into play in some fashion. This past weekend, it happened, and it happened very quick, and very dirtily. I’m talking about retailers, and their desire to keep evil at bay….like a bunch of bitches.

Arthur’s Afterthoughts: What’s In an Outfit?

I never thought that I would ever write a piece on fashion, considering how I basically wear the same goddamn thing every day (a cloak and the hide of a dragon) yet here we are, doing a piece on fashion. However, this isn’t going to be on what I stumble into after I morph out of bed in the morning. Very recently we were all introduced to our new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, but only in the last day or two were we finally shown what his official outfit is going to be, which is something huge in the Doctor Who world. His outfit is almost as important as the TARDIS herself, and fans have been waiting patiently for it to be announced. And now…….we have it.
