I never really care about any gaming news, but I will admit that I actually watched the Nintendo Direct on Day 1 of E3 specifically because I needed to hear some sweet, sweet Animal Crossing news. I’ve recently become completely addicted to Animal Crossing: New Leaf (my house is almost fully expanded, thank you very much – and I only owe Tom Nook both kidneys and my first born male! What a steal!) and while it’s very fun and adorable, but at some point, I know I’m going to climb as high as I can go in the illustrious town of “Kawaii”. (Yes, that’s my town’s name, and the town song just so happens to be “Spooky Scary Skeletons, too!) So, to prevent myself from burning out on the franchise before April 2020, I’ve decided to switch up my Animal Crossing games.
Happy Monday Evil Geeks!
To commemorate Star Wars day, we’ve got a guest post for you from our friend Haggis from Haggisandtoast. Anyway, looks like he’s found a way for you to become a badass Sith Lord on a budget…check it out!
With Episode VII on the way this holiday I really wanted to get into the spirit of things with a new lightsaber, unfortunately I am broke and have no knowledge in regards to electronics. As such I went to various cosplay sites and eventually tracked down the potential for Lowe’s to be the birthplace of a weapon for a more civilized age.
Here you will see all the parts collected, a pop up sink drain, some brass pipe, various washers and gaskets, and a sink hole cover.
Hey there Evil Geeks! There comes a time in every gamer’s life when they find themselves separated from the thing they love the most: their console or PC. Stranded, without opportunity for gaming, the true gamer would shrivel and die when confronted with this hellish reality. Thankfully we live in a world of advanced mobile technology; where anyone can carry a portable gaming system with them wherever they go! Recently I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole that is Avengers Alliance by Playdom Games. So how does this free app play? Read on to find out!
On to the sixth day of Geeksmas and we are halfway done! Today we highlight all the different gadgets that you can get for that Tech-Nerd on your list. There are tons of ways to marry the geeky stuff that they love with all the useful items that they need for everyday things…Enjoy!
In our fast paced worlds of digital everything the one thing that everyone has laying around is a flash drive to back up their data for one reason or another. No who better to protect your precious data than Optimus Prime himself! Whats that yo say? Not a transformers fan, alright, then how about letting The Flash, Yoda, or Snake Eyes watch over your files! Step right up to Mimoco where custom-made designer flash drives are their specialty. Mimoco has a bunch of original designs, along with special designs from underground artists and designers, and then a handful of different licensed properties like Star Wars, Star Trek, Transformers, G.I.Joe, and DC Comics. And don’t worry, if your more on the evil side (like us,) then you’ll love all the bad guys that they have too! They’re a bit more expensive than your average flash drive, but all in all these things are awesome and let you show off your geek pride in your work or school environment.
So I just recommended some flash drives to you which are great for your geeks day-to-day computing needs, but if you want backups of your truly evil plans then you don’t want them on flash drives that you could accidentally leave somewhere, what you need is an external hard drive! Again, you could go to Staples and get a drive any day of the week but if you want something special than you have to visit 8-Bit Memory; the store that re-purposes old Nintendo cartridges into external drives! The store always has a handful of different games that you can purchase, but if you really want that hard drive in your Excitebike cartridge all you’ll have to do is contact them and they will do a custom order. Original NES cartridges not your game?? They can also make them out of Super Nintendo cartridges and the old-school original NES controllers too! Hey, here’s another tip, if you’re kinda crafty and want to make your own, then check out this tutorial from the Instructables (Word to the wise, don’t do this if you’ve never installed computer hardware before!)
RAVAGE FLASH DRIVE
I know that all I’ve done is recommend storage drives, but this one is friggin’ awesome! If your geek is a fan of the G1 Transformers from the 80’s then this gift will really standout. Ravage is one of Soundwaves tapes that transformed into a panther that was more of a spy than a fighter, although he could mix it up when need be. This flash drive is one that actually transforms! It truly is more that meets the eye!
OK, this recommendation isn’t about anything but looking badass! So if you’re like me and you have a laptop, specifically a macbook then you can get some badass ink for your mac in the form of decals! There are tons of different designs that you can choose from ranging from Iron Man to Snow White, and it doesn’t stop with the outside of your lap pie. You can get decals for all of the keys if you’d like as well as ones for your iPad or iPhone too! There are a ton of places that sell these things so start looking online and you’re sure to find exactly what you want!
If there’s one environment that’s like Kryptonite to “avid indoorsfolk” like the Evil Geeks, it’s the outdoors. If there’s one thing worse than being outdoors, it’s being outdoors with no operable modern technology. Thankfully someone’s created tech to keep your other tech from becoming lifeless paperweights. That little miracle device would be the Freeloader Solar Charger. It sucks up magic sun juice from the sky and uses it to keep your phone, iPod/iPad, PSP, USB powered chain saw, etc. Never be without the warm techno-glow of your favorite devices ever again! The perfect gift for that geek who actually manages to get outside once in a while.
If you’ve got a Whovian in your life who’s tired of getting Tom Baker scarves as a Christmas gift each year, then check out this kick ass TARDIS 4 port USB hub!
There may be a pool and an impressive library inside, but sadly no extra USB ports, just the 4 on the outside. But what better way to let your Who flag fly than by using this sweet amazing looking hub to link up all your other gadgets. Someday very soon this fine piece of nerd tech is going to be linking the mics on The Brotherhood of Evil Geeks podcasts. The very thought of it just melts both of my hearts.
Speaking of podcasting, if you’re looking to upgrade your current beat up mic, then how about this cool, retro-yet-futuristic looking Samson Meteor Mic USB Studio Microphone?
Trade in your boring old desk mic for something that looks like one of the turrets from the Portal games. Record the latest ep of your podcast, talk some trash while playing Warcraft, develop a machine gun attachment and have it guard your computer, the possibilities are endless!
Remember to come back tomorrow for The 12 Days of Geeks-Mas Day 7: Nerd Art
Seasons Greetings Nerds!
