Welcome back, we are approaching the end of our month-long spotlight of bromances and it makes me sad, but we still have a week to bring you some more favorites. Today I want to talk about Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley, side kicks and best buds that get to become real brothers by the end. I’ve been writing a lot about Harry Potter this week, and realized how much of an old-fogie I am when it occurred to me that the initial Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was meant to take place in 1991! So that would be the year that this everlasting bromance began.
During this Brovember event, the Evil Geeks are examining bromances of all shapes and sizes. While the bromance between Angel and Spike of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame, is certainly atypical in the fact that both dudes in question are undead, it proves that even with those strange circumstances in play, guys will be guys. Both of today’s bros are hundreds of years old, highly allergic to sunlight and wooden stakes, but they’re stronger, faster, and deadlier than most things on the planet. Even with all that to consider, these bros still fall out every now and then over the one thing that is kryptonite to many male friendships: a girl.
I am a little miffed that no one has chosen to talk about this epic bromance, but hey, that leaves it for your favorite female infiltrating the brotherhood. I guess we already spotlighted Harrison Ford in a different bromance, but I think we all wish we had a friendship as tight as Han and Chewie. These two get to ride around in the coolest piece of junk this side of the galaxy having a blast smuggling things behind the Empire’s back. Sounds a little Firefly doesn’t it? Well, obviously, Firefly stole this incredible idea and combination, since Star Wars is as classic as you come.
What better way to enjoy your childhood traveling together to infinity and beyond with your best friend? Some might argue that all toys’ best friends are their owner, but I think Woody and Buzz were destined to be united. Sure, they might have started out enemies like many bromances before the, but with time these two have developed a wonderful bromance.
Hey there all you guys and gals in the geekdom! Now, I know I have been kind of slacking on the Brovember posts, but in all honesty, I’ve been goddamn busy. The streets of Gotham are not going to keep themselves safe, amiright? Anyways, in between catching up on everything I possibly can and making sure to keep churning out your regular doses of Arthur each week, the rest of the geeks have been dropping some cuddly knowledge on you on some of our favorite bromances/friendships, and now it is my turn. Scouring the depths of my brain and going back a few years, I picked these two guys out of the woodwork of one of my favorite shows, and decided to present them for your approval. Ladies and germs, I give to you Spike and Jet, from Cowboy Bebop.
Here’s another pair of drinking buddies for you brooding bromance lovers out there: Philip J. Fry and Bender Rodriguez from Futurama are an ideal bromantic couple. They become instantaneous friends when Fry first re-awakens in the future and encounters Bender in a suicide booth. And throughout the show their friendship remains one of the strongest, certainly stronger than any romantic relationships developed in the series. And yet again we see that kicking back with a cold brew really helps solidify your rank in the bromance world.
