The Definitive D23 Expo News Post: Awesome Stuff You Need to Know

It’s no secret I’m a bit of a Disney obsessed nerd. I used to work for the company, I literally plan my life around visits to the theme parks, and I follow literally every Disney blog and podcast I can get my hands on. Since Disney has acquired some awesome properties like Marvel and Star Wars, D23 Expo definitely had some awesome nerdy announcements this weekend that had me jumping for joy! The massive event takes place in Anaheim right near the motherland, Disneyland Resort. I’ve followed the Expo religiously all weekend and have compiled the list of some of the most awesome announcements made at D23 Expo, so look no further, here’s the best stuff to come out of D23:

The Announcement of “Marvel Battleground” and other Disney Infinity News

Any of you Evil Geeks who are into Disney Infinity will love this news. We all knew about Disney Infinity’s 3.0 expansion, but this weekend at D23 Disney Infinity fans got the shock of a lifetime upon finding out that a new Marvel themed playset will exist for the new iteration of the Disney Infinity series. The assumption was that the new Infinity figures would exist in a Toy Box setting, but in Spring of 2016 the set will be released, and for the first time, we’ll have up to four player gameplay compatible for all new and existing Marvel characters! Hulkbuster and Ultron are just two of the new characters revealed to be a part of this awesome playset. Watch this awesome announcement below!

Other cool Disney Infinity news includes the unveiling of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens figures, and the arrival of Peter Pan to the Disney Infinity family, as well as characters from upcoming Disney films such as Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” and “Zootopia”. They’ve also announced that in 3.0, your Magic Band will unlock the “Partners Statue” of Walt and Mickey found in front of Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World. (In 1.0, the Magic Band will unlock a flying dragon. In 2.0 it unlocks hell– I mean, ‘It’s A Small World.’ Thanks to Big Evil for letting us know about that one! ;D)

Kingdom Hearts

Any fans of the Kingdom Hearts series truly have the patience of saints to be able to have waited this long for a third installment to the game. The wait looks like it’s going to be well worth it because our pals at D23 have announced awesome things like “Tangled” and “Big Hero 6” will be included in the game! There’s even the possibility that KH3 will pick up where “Big Hero 6” left off and pave the way for the newly announced “Big Hero 7”, since Baymax was pictured in his alternate dimension form. I may actually have to play this game now…

Star Wars Lands in Disneyland and Disney World

Possibly the most exciting news was the official announcement of Star Wars Theme Parks in both California and Florida. Admittedly, I’d been anticipating this for a while now and have had my fingers crossed for a formal announcement at D23 after I’d read that Disney World had purchased at least 14 acres of land in the Orlando area. Two of the proposed features include an experience to ride in the Millennium Falcon (BE STILL MY HEART) and to be able to visit the Cantina. Maybe I’ll be able to figure out if Han shot first? Either way, I’m super excited and I know that whatever they do will be amazing.

New Disney Channel Series Based on Hit Animated Films

Both “Tangled” and “Lion King” TV series are official and this means I’m going to be that weird 20 something who watches Disney Channel religiously despite not living with any children. The “Tangled” series is set to hit the air by 2017. “The Lion Guard”, the animated series based off “The Lion King” (one of my favorite films ever, honestly) and will star two of the original film’s stars, James Earl Jones as Mufasa and Ernie Sabella as Pumbaa on the show. The rest of the cast was also announced and it includes some old favorites as well as some new, original characters.

Guardians of the Galaxy TV Series

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So exciting. Disney XD is really killing it in terms of programming lately, with their “Star Wars” show and the inclusion of “Doctor Who” to their channel. The series will get us more acquainted with Peter Quill, aka Starlord, “The Legendary Outlaw?” and his origins. The show premieres on September 26th on Disney XD.

Soarin’ Around the World

The popular attraction that got its origins in Disney’s California Adventure and later made its way to Disney World’s Epcot Park (and into our hearts) is getting a whole new update, to be called “Soarin’ Around the World”!

Toy Story Land

An 11 acre expansion set to arrive in Orlando’s “Hollywood Studios” Park, Toy Story Land will take you inside the toy box , to infinity and beyond!

Marvel-ous News!

Just watch! Not only did they show footage of “Captain America: Civil War” and concept art for “Doctor Strange” but an Iron Man Ride was announced for Hong Kong Disney Resort!

The “Figment 2” Comic was also discussed, and is set to be released in stores in September. If you haven’t read the first series, I highly recommend it even if you’re not familiar with the “Journey Into Imagination” ride. If you are, it will only give you more feels.

Long story short — Disney, take my money. Please. All of it.

If there’s anything I missed that you found interesting, don’t hesitate to comment and inform me! There was so much going on that I couldn’t possibly include it all. What was your favorite announcement?
