Liefeld Week Book Report – Brigade #1

To say that the 90’s were a prime example of what not to do in comics would be an understatement. As a young Harkness, I spent more than my fair share of time in the comic shop located conveniently right next to my house, and would often be found perusing every shelf they had. Being a mere child of 7 however, I was strapped for cash, as in I had none, and was hard pressed to be able to take any comic home with me. Luckily, the owner of said shop (Imagination Comics) was very kind to young Arthur Harkness, and let me stay in there as long as I wanted and read everything for as long as I wanted. Jealous? Well you shouldn’t be. The year was 1992…and things were not so great in the world of comics.

A Closer Look At Rob Liefeld’s Original Prophet Series

In honor of it being Liefeld week here and since I already reviewed the new Prophet series it’s time we go back to the original. We’ll take a look at the first 7 issues of his inaugural series from 1993-1994. Why only 7? Because I actually own these issues. That’s right; I paid money to buy these when I was 10. The only thing I regret about it is that Liefeld is only on writing duty for this series and the occasional cover. Without further adieu, let’s jump right into this.

Evil Geeks Art Gallery – X-cessive Force

Long time no see, my fellow art aficionados. For those of you unfamiliar with this particular wing of the Brotherhood’s Evil Lair, you’ve entered the Evil Geeks Art Gallery.

There is no collection on God’s green earth to rival the contents of these hallowed halls. You’ve seen recreations of Captain America Comics #1, The Shocking Climax of the Empire Strikes Back, the cover art to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES, the Death of Elektra, and the theatrical poster for Back to the Future.

And still, you’ve come back for more.

Well this week we’ve got a special treat in store for you! In honor of Liefeld Week, I commissioned the finest artists on hand to recreate the timeless masterpiece that is the cover of X-Force #1.

Batman gets his day to shine at the Crandall Public Library!

Afternoon Nerds!

Although it’s Liefeld Week here on evilgeeks.com, we have a big celebration to look forward to this Wednesday, July 23rd as the world officially celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Caped Crusader himself on Batman Day! If you haven’t been listening to me throughout 2014 or if you’ve been living under a rock then maybe you haven’t heard that DC is throwing a party and you’re all invited as local comic shops, book stores, and libraries celebrate the Dark Knight.

Batman at 75 Gallery

Now readers, I hope that you’ve caught on since we started this little evil empire that Batman is kinda my thing, so when I heard about Batman Day I was stoked until reality checked in and I realized that there isn’t a local comic shop or even a book store in my town. I originally planned to travel an hour or so back to where I grew up to celebrate this event just like I have to for Free Comic Book Day. Then out of the blue something hit me like the bat signal in the night sky… my local library was hosting Batman Day!!! Really???
