The Flash Suits Up!

Happy Weekend Nerds!

Grant Gustin suits up as The Flash in the first official image of the Scarlet Speedster set to star in the upcoming series on the CW. DC appears to have gotten the look right with the help of Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed Ollie’s suit on Arrow.

As you can see, DC decided to go with more of a New-52 look of the character (hint: chinstrap.) Gustin stars as Barry Allen, who appeared late in 2013 on Arrow for a couple of episodes. This image alone makes it seenm that the spinoff series might have a lighter tone, which would serve as a nice contrast to Arrow and what most-likely will be a gritty Gotham on Fox and at the same time be a nod to the serialized book.

A bunch of names have been announced for the show including  Candice Patton as Iris West, Jesse L. Martin as Iris’s father, Detective West, and Michelle Harrison as Barry’s mother Nora Allen. Adding to that list is Rick Gosnett playing Detective Eddie Thawne and Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow who fans of the book may recognize as The Reverse Flash and Killer Frost! Throw in John Wesley Shipp (who played The Flash on the 1990 live action show,) whose playing an unknown character (I hope Jay Garrick) and you’ve got Central City!

Flash has always been one of my favorite books to read because the visuals on paper are awesome and hope that the show can match it, and next to Batman I think that the Flash’s Rouges are one of the best group of baddies out there with Captain Cold, Capt. Boomerang, and Mirror Master to name a few. I’m excited to see if the show also includes Keystone City, and how the Gem Cities might play into Arrow as well. (After all, Iron Heights is really a prison in the Flash series, but is regularly on Arrow.)

The Flash begins shooting next week and the creative team includes co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg who, along with Geoff Johns, will write the pilot episode and work alongside “Arrow” director David Nutter.
