Your Week in Geek: January 17th–23rd
Welcome to our new feature that’ll help catch you up on a bunch of the highlights of geek news that went down this past week. So, without further adieu…
Superman/Batman pushed back to 2016
In what has come across as absolutely no surprise to anyone, Warners has decided to push the Man of Steel sequel simply titled Superman vs. Batman back a whole year from July 15th, 2015 to May 6th, 2016. I am actually in complete favor for this because in my mind at least, DC and WB are finally starting to realize that if they plan to have Supes, Bats, Wondie and who knows who else in this movie that it simply has to kick ass! So, if they need another year to refine the script and get the best people in there, then all the power to them. Whatever they gotta do to get me a Justice League on screen is all I care about, and one that includes Darkseid dammit!!!
Ant-Man takes WB’s Date
Originally Ant-Man was scheduled for July 30th, 2015 but when Warners pulled their DC flick from that date and replaced it with a new Peter Pan movie, Marvel Studios stepped in and decided to release their movies a couple weeks sooner… good call if you ask me, having a Marvel movie in theaters earlier in the summer gives them the opportunity to make more dough in the long run. Also, I find it a tad ironic that Disney, whose producing this movie with Marvel is putting Peter Pan in their crosshairs!!!
Gal Gadot is Contracted for 3 Movies
So news that Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman broke a couple months back and chatter all over the web wants to know exactly what kind of role that she’ll play in the next Superman movie. There are so many theories out there, but I hope that a three-picture deal means that we’ll only really get a cameo of the Amazon Princess at the end of the movie to spring us into the Justice League film that everyone seems to think will follow the next MOS. Variety has even reported that the three movies include the MOS sequel, JL, and a standalone Wonder Woman movie…guess we’ll have to wait and see.
S.H.I.E.L.D. gets a Familiar Face
Marvel announced that Centipede fueled Mike Peterson (played by J. August Richards) will return to the show shortly playing everyone’s favorite cybernetic soldier, Deathlok! I am psyched for this and not for nothing, but C-Mart totally called this to me a couple weeks ago over some beers. Hopefully it’s not a one and done scenario. Also, our S.H.I.E.L.D. team will get a visit from none other than Lady Sif in a coming episode, which further ties Marvel’s TV and Film universe together….Awesome!
DC Animated Movie News
DC has put out a trailer for their newest animated feature titled Son of Batman that is based off of Grant Morrison’s run and will feature the Al Ghul family and the recently departed Damian Wayne.
Also, Justice League: War is coming out in just a few weeks on February 4th and will recount the first 6 issues of the New 52 Justice League book where the team forms and fights Darkseid. A big piece of controversy over the movie was that DC decided to swap out Aquaman for Shazam, which ruffled some gills. Well it’s been reported by Newsarama that there is a post-credits sequence that includes Ocean Master and appears to set up the next JL Animated Film…Will the follow the Throne of Atlantis storyline? Damn I hope so…
Days of Future Past Releases Yet Another Teaser
It seems that Brian Singer leaks a little something every day about this movie, and the XMenMovies account on Instagram (the official Instagram for DOFP) released this pretty cool clip.
Along with that, Singer mentioned on twitter that on January 27th we would see something BIG! Hmmmm….Sentinels….I hope so!
Sherlock is Back
This week brought up the first episode in Series Three of Sherlock titled “The Empty Hearse” and gave us a handful of ways that our favorite detective survived his apparent death as well as a mustached Watson…haha. Fans old and new came out to watch the premier as Sherlock pulled in 4 million viewers to PBS on Sunday Night which out-performed it’s Series Two opener by 25%!
Stan Said No Cameo in GOTG
Thats right True Believers! Stan Lee said in an interview with Dweebcast that he won’t make a cameo in Marvel’s next release. He stated that “This is the one group I didn’t create. I didn’t write Guardians of the Galaxy. I’m not even sure who they all are. I can’t wait to see the movie.” It’t too bad, but it was gonna happen sooner or later. I’ll miss you Stan, ‘Nuff Said!
