Michael Douglas is Hank Pym!

Heya Nerds!

We got ourselves an Ant-Man!

We got ourselves an Ant-Man!

Last month we heard that Paul Rudd would be playing Ant-Man in Edgar Wright’s feature and immediately people asked which one? Most people assumed that he would be playing Pym and even talked about a possibility of Rashida Jones playing Wasp. Guess we were all wrong about that, because Marvel has announced that veteran actor Michael Douglas will be in the role of Pym to Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang.

Obviously, based on Captain America and the Agent Carter one-shot, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been around for awhile and it’s well known that Edgar Wright had said that this is going to be a heist movie, so it makes sense that Pym was around in the 60’s. Maybe not as a superhero, but as a lead scientist that stumbles onto something… That was Pym’s role in both the Ultimates and the awesome Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes cartoon before he became Ant-Man. Scott Lang technically stole the Ant-Man suit and Pym Particles in other media, so it makes sense that is how they’re going to play this as well.

Some of the geeks were talking and wondered if Pym or even a young Nick Fury may show up in the Netflix-based Marvel shows that they are working on since they’re supposed to be set in the past. I will say that although I’m indifferent to the casting, (Douglas is a great actor, but was just expecting someone younger) I trust Wright when it comes to making a quality movie. Does this mean that Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp will be hanging out with Scott Lang instead? Or will she still be the battered wife of Doctor Pym? We’ll have to wait to find out. Ant-Man is set to release on July 15th, 2015 and begins “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

  1. It’ll be cool to see the Marvel U in the 60’s. I liked what they did with the Agent Carter one-shot, and it’d be cool to see Howard Stark and Douglas going back and forth over who is smarter!

  2. Del Robertson Somerville

This is good news as Edgar always talked about two different time periods.
