complete animated series

Sadly, the full set is no longer available from most retailers so you’d pay an inflated price. However, you can still buy the individual seasons at very reasonable prices. I was given this set as a gift one year and it launched me on a mission to collect the entire DC Animated Universe series of DVDS. It’s a fantastic and generous gift!

Back when this show first premiered, it really snuck up on me.  I half-heartedly watched the first episode just to kill some time, completely not expecting to like it.  5 seasons later as the series was coming to an end, I’d seen every single episode and was lamenting the loss of my geek themed Friday nights (Chuck was on at 8, Fringe at 9, video game marathon for the rest of the night.  I assure you this is the schedule of a man in his 30’s, not a pre-pubescent 12-year-old).  I’m big on mixing action and comedy and Chuck delivered on both every week.  The Blu-Ray box set of the whole series was just released on October 31st.  Solid story telling, tons of familiar guest stars, and a great cast all around.  Finding this set under the tree would definitely put a smile on many a geeks’ face.

Completing the second half of my long-lost geek TV night, is one of my all time favorite shows, FRINGE!  Season 4 of Fringe was just released on DVD and Blu-Ray this fall.  Take it from this Evil Geek: this season was simply amazing.  What started off as a scientific, police procedural series in the first few episodes of season one had fully blossomed into a cavalcade of Sci Fi insanity by season 4.  Universes collide, animal men run amok, and after being erased from existence, Peter Bishop claws his way back to reality!  You can tell the writers went into this season fully expecting to get canceled afterwards, since a TON of the shows longest running mysteries finally get answered, but all in a really satisfying way.  Such an AMAZING season of television!  Luckily, the show got renewed for a final season and it’s turning out to be just as epic in scope and weirdness as it has ever been.  Plus, it’s in the future!!!!  Who wouldn’t want to get this as a gift on Christmas morning?!?!

A definite must have for that special Whovian in your life!  This recently released collection of the first half of the current season comes with some of the finest episodes of the Matt Smith era.  The action and adventure kick-off with the mind-blowing opening episode “Asylum of the Daleks” and lead right up to the tear jerker, mid-season finally “The Angels Take Manhattan”.  Sadly, the Ponds make their final journey with The Doctor in episode 5, so if you’re a fan of Amy and Rory, you may want to have the Kleenex handy.  Sadness aside though, what better way for a Who-nerd to spend Christmas afternoon than watching a season 7 marathon, leading right up into the brand new Christmas special premiering that night?!?!

Well, my man Kang beat me to recommend the Batman Animated series for you folks, but I definetly have on for you; Justice League!!! Justice League essentially stemmed out of both the Batman animated and then the Superman animated TV series in the 90’s. The series started out with the league meeting one another when a crisis hit the earth, up until this point they knew of each other but rarely worked together with the exception of Superman and Batman. When the threat was taken care of they decided to stay together in a little clubhouse in the atmosphere. The show started with a core 7 members; Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Martian Manhunter, but had a ton of guest stars (both heroes and villians!) As the threats mounted, the league decided to expand and changed the name to Justice League Unlimited which included a huge cast of heroes in the DCU. This part of the series was great because you would get big story lines like ones with Darkseid alongside little ones like the Seven Soldiers of Victory thrown into the mix. This set includes all 90 episodes of both titles and will most certainly make your little (or big) geek dance with joy!

OK Everyone...Remember your pose.

Ah, Greendale Community College…if I could go back to school it would most definitely be there! Community is in my eyes one of the top three shows on TV in any given week, if not the best one! All the seasons offer something special…Season 1 brought us the introduction to these ridiculous characters and one of my favorite episodes titled “Debate.” Season 2 brought the famous Claymation Christmas Episode, and Season 3 gave us am amazing Pillow Fight! All of these things are crazy, yet believable in the world of Greendale Community College. These things are always on sale, so get them all for your geek. Community returns in early 2013, so why not spend the holidays catching us. I guarantee that hilarity will ensue!

Remember to come back tomorrow for The 12 Days of Geeks-Mas Day 4: Video Games
